The 6 Links Between Knowing and Results

The chain from information to results, and the exact link where most transformations break.

The 6 Links Between Knowing and Results

Key Insight

I want you to look at these numbers and tell me this system isn't broken.

$1.8 trillion spent on digital transformation in 2022. Forecasted to eclipse $4 trillion by 2027.

And McKinsey's own research says 70% of transformations fail to hit their objectives.

We're spending more on change every year and producing less of it. That's not bad execution. That's a design flaw.

Here's what I've seen after 20 years inside this system: the entire thing runs on one assumption. If people know what to do, they'll do it.

Sounds logical, and it's dead wrong.

Knowing what to eat doesn't make you healthy. Knowing you should exercise doesn't get you to the gym. Knowing the new sales process is better doesn't mean anyone's going to use it when their old way still hits quota.

There's a gap between knowing and doing that the entire transformation industry pretends doesn't exist. Strategy consulting solves for knowing. Training solves for knowing. New software solves for knowing. Nobody solves for doing.

More one-look frameworks are published to the library as they're finished.
